If the Catholic Church apostasized, then Christ is a liar and Felix Manalo is the true prophet

Mt 16:18 was quoted not so much for the Trinity but for the promise of Christ that the Church that He will found on Peter will not be overcome by error. So if INC claims that there was apostasy in the Church after the death of the last apostle, then Christ is a liar, a false messiah who makes false promises. As God spoke in Deuteronomy through Moses:

21Should you say to yourselves, “How can we recognize that a word is one the LORD has not spoken?”, 22if a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD but the word does not come true, it is a word the LORD did not speak. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not fear him. (Dt 18:21-21)

But if the opposite is true and the Church founded by Christ on Peter never apostasized, though some of its members left the sheepfold, then the promise of Christ remains true, and Manalo is a false prophet who deceived many.

A false assumption to make is the Roman Catholic Church is/was the true Christian Church. At the begining of the Christian era, the Roman church had no authority over any other church. All churches were local, self governing, and equal, none had authority over another. In Fact the church that was in Britannia (Britain) was older than the church in Rome, as were many, many other churches.

The church in Rome erred when it started baptising infants, around 250 A.D. Before this only true believers who had repented and accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior were eligable for baptism. After this came centuries of errror in doctrine, with new beliefs being added: making people saints, praying to saints, worshipping Mary, Papal infalibilty, Purgatory….etc the list is long. The full blown corruption started when the Roman Catholic Church became the State, this started with Constantine.

Eventually the Roman Catholic Church started to persecute and even kill people who would not baptise infants, centuries before the Reformation and Protestantism. The Roman Catholic Church also persecuted and killed Jews for hundreds of years. The Roman Catholic Church persecuted people everywhere they went on the Catholic mission field. Read the history of South and Central America along with Mexico.

The Roman Catholic Church was not founded on Peter the Appostle, it was founded on what Jesus Christ said to Peter. Peter recognized Jesus as “The Messiah”, this was the foundation that the church would be built on.

The rule book is the Bible and the New Testament for all Christians, the Roman Catholic Church has no authority to alter or add to any of it.

Can you please explain how the church in Britannia was older than the church in Rome. Please include in your explanation your definition of church and the approximate years the churches were founded.

Also, the statement, “The rule book is the Bible and the New Testament for all Christians…” is not entirely accurate. The Bible, including the books of the New Testament, are compiled from many books. The commission that undertook the compilation of these books was under the authority of the Roman Catholic Church, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit (in accordance with Jesus’s promise that the Holy Spirit will always guide His church). The list of books that many Christian denomination accept as cannon was decided upon by in the Catholic Church in the council of Trent. So, the Catholic Church, from the very beginning, with the help of the Holy Spirit, was the authority behind which books should be added or deleted from the list of cannon book.

One more point, the council of Trent convened between 1545AD and 1563AD, long after 250AD when the Church supposedly erred. This is consistent with Jesus’s promise to always watch over the Church he asked Peter to look after.

    Respectfully,

    John W,

I shall respond to your first paragraph.

In the beginning of the Christian Era, Peter and the Apostles were still in Jerusalem, so they made decrees during the Council of Jerusalem. Then Peter went to Antioch, then to Rome, and with Paul founded the Church of Rome. Peter became the first bishop of Rome and all his successors became the successors of Peter. the Church of Antioch is older than the Church of Rome, but it is to Rome that other churches look up to decide with finality the controversies that plague the church, e.g. date of Easter, Pelagianism, Arianism, Donatism, etc. For example, Ignatius of Antioch (ca. 35 or 50-between 98 and 117) is a student of John the Apostle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ignatius_of_Antioch), yet this is what he wrote regarding the Church of Rome:

“Ignatius, who is also called Theophorus, to the Church which has obtained mercy, through the majesty of the Most High Father, and Jesus Christ, His only-begotten Son; the Church which is beloved and enlightened by the will of Him that wills all things which are according to the love of Jesus Christ our God, which also presides in the place of the region of the Romans, worthy of God, worthy of honour, worthy of the highest happiness, worthy of praise, worthy of obtaining her every desire, worthy of being deemed holy, and which presides over love, is named from Christ, and from the Father, which I also salute in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father: to those who are united, both according to the flesh and spirit, to every one of His commandments; who are filled inseparably with the grace of God, and are purified from every strange taint, [I wish] abundance of happiness unblameably, in Jesus Christ our God.” http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/0107.htm

Even when Emperor Constantine transferred the seat of his empire to Constantinople, the Church of Rome still retained its primacy. In the Council held in Constantinople in year 381, it was decreed:

“The Bishop of Constantinople, however, shall have the prerogative of honour after the Bishop of Rome because Constantinople is New Rome.[20]” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Constantinople

Even when the Western Roman Empire collapsed, the last Western Roman Emperor was deposed, and the barbarian hordes overran Western Europe including Italy, the primacy of the Church of Rome remains; heretics are only heretics when the Church of Rome declares them as such and schism occurs. Yet the Church of Rome remains as evidenced by the list of Popes for 2000 years.

My Reply: That Holy Spirit is a hoax! Guidance of HS? Wew! Look at lots of errors and contradictions.
